AGR Software as a Source of Big Data

The Russian State Geological Holding RosGeo announced creation of the first open source platform for big data management. This was stated by Sergey N. Gorkov, head of Rosgeology, on September 30, 2021, at the 1st meeting of the Open Science and Technology Council “Big data in the geology of the future”.

Among the members of the Council were top-level managers of Rosgeology, Rosnedra, Rosgeolfond, as well as representatives of the leading digital corporations, including Rosatom, Rostelecom, Sberbank, Gazprom, Tatneft, Lukoil, Yandex.

At the event, Rostislav Bilik, AGR Software CEO, gave a presentation “AGR technology as a source of big data and use of neural networks for automated core logging”. Over 11 years, a large amount of digital geological data was accumulated in the agr format (more than 15 million running meters of mine workings) that can be used as a big data source. In his report, Rostislav Bilik also highlighted the possibility of providing an API to access agr data and suggested using automated AGR tables to ensure high-quality images of core, which will improve recognition accuracy. The report has gained much attention.
